PE Activity #22 - "Backboard Dodgeball"
OVERVIEW:
Backboard Dodgeball is a modified version of dodgeball that involves two teams throwing balls at each other with the aim of hitting players on the opposing team. The game is played using basketball rings, and the objective is to eliminate all players on the opposing team or score a basket to win the game.
EQUIPMENT:
Soft foam balls
Basketball rings
Boundary lines to mark the playing area
SETUP: Divide the playing area into two equal halves and mark the boundary lines. Hang basketball rings on either side of the playing area. Divide the players into two teams and have them stand on opposite sides of the playing area.
INSTRUCTIONS:
The game begins with a player from each team running to the center of the playing area to retrieve a ball.
Once a player has a ball, they must try to hit an opposing player below the shoulders with the ball or aim for the basketball ring to win the game.
If a player is hit, they are out of the game and must move to the sidelines. If a player catches a ball thrown at them, the player who threw the ball is out.
If a player hits the backboard behind the basketball ring, all their teammates on the sideline are back in the game.
If a player gets the ball in the basketball ring, their team wins the game.
The game continues until all players on one team are eliminated or one team scores a basket.
MAKE IT EASIER:
Use larger balls that are easier to catch and throw.
Allow players to come back into the game after being hit by catching a ball thrown by one of their teammates.
Have players start closer to each other to make it easier to hit opponents.
MAKE IT HARDER:
Use smaller balls that are harder to catch and throw.
Increase the distance between the teams to make it more challenging to hit opponents.
Add multiple balls to the game to make it more chaotic and challenging.
