PE Activity #20 - "Speedball"

OVERVIEW:

Speedball is a fast-paced and exciting team sport that combines elements of soccer and basketball. The objective of the game is to score points or goals. The game switches between soccer mode and basketball mode depending on certain conditions.

EQUIPMENT:

  • Speedball ball

  • Cones or markers to designate the boundaries

  • Nets or goals

SETUP: Best played on a basketball court with mini soccer goals underneath the basketball rings.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Divide players into two teams and place them on either side of the field.

  2. The game starts in soccer mode with a kickoff from the center of the field.

  3. Players can only use their feet to move the ball up the field and score goals by kicking it into the opposing team's goal.

  4. If a player kicks the ball into their own hands, the game switches to basketball mode. In basketball mode, players can dribble the ball and take up to three steps before passing or shooting, while trying to score in the basketball ring.

  5. If the ball bounces twice, the game switches back to soccer mode.

  6. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

MAKE IT EASIER:

  • Use a larger ball that is easier to control.

  • Allow players to take more than three steps in basketball mode.

  • Use smaller nets or goals to make it easier to score.

MAKE IT HARDER:

  • Use a smaller ball that is more difficult to control.

  • Add more conditions to switch between soccer mode and basketball mode, such as a certain number of passes or a specific location on the field.

  • Add more players to each team to make the field more crowded.
