What are the macronutrients?
Well...
Macro = big
Nutrients = food
So, macronutrients = big-food!
This refers to the foods that make up the largest proportion of one's diet, essential for growth, energy supply and performance. This is different to micronutrients (Learn about them here!)
The 3 Macronutrients are:
Protein
Carbohydrates
Fats
(Water is sometimes included but is not energy providing)
Let's take a deeper dive into all 3 of these:
Protein:
Protein function = repair/growth, secondary energy source
Examples: meat, eggs, milk
Carbohydrates:
Carbohydrates function = provides energy
Examples: Sugar, Bread, rice, pasta
Fats:
(Good) Fats function = organ protection, energy supply, hormone production, nutrient transport
Examples: Avocado, olive oil, nuts
