Lesson Title: Introduction to Netball

Grade Level: Years 9-10

Introduction:

  • Recap the basic rules of netball with the class and briefly explain any new rules they will encounter in the lesson.

  • Introduce the learning outcomes and explain how they will be achieved through the lesson.

Warm-up:

  • Instruct students to jog around the netball court and gradually increase their speed.

  • Once the students are warmed up, set up a series of cones to create a circuit with various exercises, such as high knees, butt kicks, and side shuffles.

Instruction:

  • Demonstrate and explain netball skills and techniques, such as passing, catching, and shooting techniques.

  • Divide the class into small groups and assign each group a specific skill or technique to practice.

  • Encourage students to provide constructive feedback to their peers.

Gameplay:

  • Set up a mini game on the netball court.

  • Assign bibs to each team to differentiate between players.

  • Instruct students to play the game while applying the skills and techniques they learned earlier.

  • Encourage students to collaborate and communicate effectively within their team to achieve common goals.

Cool Down:

  • Instruct students to perform a few stretches to cool down their muscles.

  • Discuss the importance of teamwork and communication in netball.

  • Review the learning outcomes with the class and reflect on their achievements during the lesson.

Assessment:

  • Observe students throughout the lesson and provide feedback on their skill development, teamwork, and communication.

  • Conclude the lesson by asking students to reflect on their performance during the game and how they can further develop their netball skills in the future.
