Lesson Plan: The Components of Fitness



Duration: 1 class period (approximately 45 minutes)


Learning Intention:

Students will identify and understand the 11 fitness components, their importance, and how they contribute to overall fitness.


Success Criteria:

  1. Students can name and describe each of the 11 fitness components.

  2. Students can explain the importance of developing all 11 fitness components for overall fitness.

Materials Needed:


Lesson Plan:


1. Introduction (5 minutes):

  • Greet the students and explain the purpose of the lesson.

  • Share the learning intention and success criteria with the students.


2. PowerPoint Presentation (25 minutes):

  • Display the PowerPoint presentation.

  • Discuss each fitness component, highlighting its characteristics and importance.

  • Encourage student participation and answer any questions they may have.


3. Group Activity: Fitness Component Stations (10 minutes):

  • Divide students into small groups.

  • Set up stations representing each fitness component.

  • Assign each group to a station and provide a task related to the specific component.

  • Monitor and facilitate the activity.


4. Group Discussion (5 minutes):

  • Regroup the students and facilitate a discussion about their experiences at each station.

  • Ask students to share their observations, challenges, and how each component contributed to their overall fitness.


5. Conclusion (5 minutes):

  • Summarise the lesson by emphasising the importance of developing all 11 fitness components for overall fitness.

  • Revisit the learning intention and success criteria, highlighting what students have achieved.

  • Encourage students to incorporate activities targeting each fitness component into their daily lives.
